Position Summary:Utah State University Extension invites applications for a County Extension faculty, tenure track position. Extension faculty develop, implement, evaluate, and coordinate research-based educational programs to enhance quality of life for youth and adults. Extension faculty also recruit, train and supervise volunteer leaders and serve as a liaison between local clientele, other resource agencies, and Utah State University administrators, faculty, and programs. This Extension position includes both Grand County and university responsibilities. An office will be provided at the USU Extension office in Moab. Only 4% of land ownership in Grand County is privately owned. All other land is under federal, state, and Native American jurisdiction. Tourism is the main economic driver for Grand County with the city of Moab being the main access point for two national parks, one state park, the Colorado River, and thousands of square miles of red rock landscape. The City of Moab is among the first in Utah to adopt a 100% net-renewable energy by 2030 resolution. Moab is the first city in the United States to be certified as a Green Power Community, and the new USU Moab building currently under construction is set to become USUs first net-zero energy building. Much of Grand County is arid desert, with precipitation ranging from an average of 9 inches in Moab to 7 inches in Cisco annually. Although Grand County has a few small farms that produce alfalfa hay, fruit, and vegetables; the main elements of Extension programming have included home horticulture, water conservation, natural resource issues, and 4-H youth programs. The position requires knowledge of urban water conservation, native plants, horticulture, natural resources, and youth programming related to the growing needs and changing demographics of the county. We welcome candidates with diverse interests and experience related to horticulture, natural resources, and 4-H youth programs.
