The Educator will primarily serve communities in Crook County, which is located in northeastern Wyoming. Sundance lies at the foot of the Sundance Mountain in the Black Hills National Forest. This area of Wyoming is said to be a land rich in history, wildlife, minerals, national forest, ranching and friendly people. Crook County is home to many points of interest, specifically, Devils Tower National Monument (Americas very first national monument), Vore Buffalo Jump, and the Crook County Museum which displays original Sundance Kid memorabilia. Crook County is populated by approximately 7,184 residents, with roughly 1,200 living in Sundance. Major industries in the county are ranching, forest products, oil production, and tourism. The area is widely known for world-class outdoor recreational opportunities, vibrant rural communities, and the other amenities of living in the rural West. Nature & PurposeThis position provides community-based educational and applied research programs in the general areas of agriculture and natural resources. Training and/or experience in public land management issues and policies; forestry; livestock grazing management; wildlife habitat management; management of invasive species; and rangeland monitoring/assessment will be important credentials.Responsibilities and Essential DutiesThe individual in this position works as a representative of the University of Wyoming (UW) and fosters a productive relationship with elected officials and other stakeholders in Crook County. Primary duties include but are not limited to: Implement an appropriate strategy to assess educational needs of clientele in the program area of Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR).Design, deliver, and evaluate comprehensive educational programs addressing ANR needs in Crook County.Foster collaborative research projects and integrated educational programs with UW colleagues to address the needs of Crook County and northeastern Wyoming. Engage with the Crook County Extension Advisory Committee, County Commissioners, and community members to ensure responsive, relevant, and impactful educational programs. Contribute to the 4-H Youth Development program in Crook County.Support the general Extension operations in Crook County which may include community horticulture, Master Gardener programs, student recruiting, and cooperation with other UW programs serving Crook County. Ability to participate in some overnight travel, evening and weekend work.

Minimum education level :
An earned masters degree from an accredited college or university. One degree must have been awarded in rangeland management, animal sciences, plant sciences, natural resources, or cognate field related to the management of agriculture and natural resources.Valid drivers license.Demonstrated expertise in agricultural production or the management of natural resources. Experience in developing and implementing community-based educational programs in agriculture and natural resources. Demonstrated knowledge of the natural resources and agricultural enterprises in this area of Wyoming.
