Description:
This position is located in Meagher County.The focus of this position is to provide executive and strategic leadership for the 4-H/Youth Development and Agriculture Extension programs in Meagher County. The successful candidate will provide leadership by working successfully with volunteers and clientele to identify and meet the needs of youth and adult audiences across the county. Provide leadership and executive oversight of the Meagher County 4-H/youth development program. Plan, implement, and facilitate 4-H/youth development programs that enhance educational experiences for youth in the development of life and leadership skills Provide leadership for volunteer recruitment, development, training, placement, and support. Plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs in agriculture, with emphases on beef livestock production and management, forage production, range management, and farm financial management. Provide leadership as the Meagher County private applicator training coordinator to implement the private applicator program, including certification and trainings for private, restricted use pesticide applicators. Must possess or be able to obtain a Montana Government Pesticide Applicator license. Provide educational opportunities for youth and adults in traditional and non-traditional audiences. Provide leadership in Extension within agriculture, natural resources, and 4-H/youth development in Meagher County in a manner that increases MSUs success in positively impacting Montanans, benefiting youth and adults, and increasing the capacities of communities. Facilitate a process involving local citizens and community organizations to assess and identify needs and priorities for locally directed programming and resources, target new audiences, and develop and implement appropriate and responsive educational programming for Meagher County. Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the Meagher County Commission. Assure compliance with civil rights and affirmative action policies. Comply with all Extension federal, state, university, and county reporting requirements. Develop professional partnerships with Extension specialists, associate specialists, and peer field faculty and stakeholders that advance the mission of Extension and increase Extensions success in efficiently identifying and meeting the needs of Montanans. Deliver educational resources through Extension teaching, developing curriculum(a), educational materials, one-on-one consultations, and small group instruction. Maintain timely accountability through documenting and reporting outcomes, impacts, and successes in Extension scholarship to Extension, internal and external stakeholders, and funding partners. Participate in relevant state, regional, national, or international professional activities.Required Qualifications Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills1. Bachelors degree.2. At least one degree or significant relevant experience in agriculture, natural resources, 4-H/youth development, or a closely related field.3. Demonstrated ability to lead groups; assess community needs; and develop, organize, plan, teach, and evaluate effective Extension programs.4. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership for and work collaboratively and effectively with individuals, groups, and community organizations representing a wide variety of youth and adult audiences.5. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and varied tasks and to accept and delegate responsibilities.6. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the use of a variety of information technologies for dissemination of educational information, educational programming, and program management.Preferred Qualifications Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills1. Masters degree.2. Knowledge or experience in 4-H or other youth development programs and volunteer management.3. Knowledge or experience in livestock production and management, forage production, range management, and farm financial management.4. Demonstrated ability to help groups find constructive solutions to controversial or contentious issues.5. Training or experience in budget development, grant writing, and budget and grant management.The Successful Candidate WillThe successful candidate will possess excellent human relation skills; a high level of professionalism; the ability to work effectively with other staff members; evidence of good judgment; flexibility and innovation to respond to changing needs of people in Meagher County; and will be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. The successful candidate will have the ability to follow MSU policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws.The successful candidate will also have a familiarity with multi-cultural and different socioeconomic audiences, an interest in working with people from diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to the principles of diversity, and will be dedicated to supporting and enhancing Montana State Universitys initiative for diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.Position Special Requirements/Additional InformationThis position, if filled at the Masters degree level, will be tenure-track. A successful candidate without a Masters degree will be required to complete their Masters degree, in a program area relevant to their Extension position, within six (6) years of their start date. Failure to do so may result in termination.
