Position Overview As part of MSU Extension (MSUE) and the Health and Nutrition Institute (HNI), this position provides local and statewide educational health and food safety programming in tribal communities with a focus on those communities located within Michigans Upper Peninsula, including the counties of Alger, Chippewa, Luce, Mackinac, Marquette and Schoolcraft. This position will have statewide responsibilities and will collaborate across work teams, Institutes and community groups, working with faculty, specialists and educators. In this position, you will assess tribal community education needs, and will identify, design, implement and evaluate research-based educational programming created through a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) lens, disseminate research-based information through various methods, such as multi-media, direct education and written articles. Health and food safety program topics may include diabetes and other chronic disease prevention and self-management, mental health and stress reduction, falls prevention, food preservation, food safety, food sovereignty, and/or nutrition education (e.g., food as medicine). You will support HNIs efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a special emphasis on reaching diverse populations.Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are essential elements vital to the culture MSUE endeavors to cultivate.
